Mary Lacy Hanson confided in her granddaughter, Candy (Candy Morgan Evans) that her one wish for her 80th birthday was that all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could be there to help her celebrate it. Candy swung into high gear and started planning a surprise birthday party for her, enlisting her mother, brothers and uncle Dan to help. Candy made her a quilt (see quilt story) and Joyce made a scrapbook from as many of the photos of Mary's life as she could find. Mary had written a story about her early life and although not completed Joyce printed what she had and put it in the pages of the scrapbook. It turned out pretty thick and probably should have been two books. Candy made a three-tiered strawberry shortcake that was sort of lop-sided but we didn't have any trouble eating it. Mary got a new computer so she could keep up with her email and instant messaging, lots of cards and gifts from friends and family. All the boys, cooked the dinner.
